Domestic Mission Work

The Church of Christ at Gold Hill Road is currently supporting four other congregations and planning for the development of a new church in the Clover, SC area.

Covington, GA Progress Update

The Central church of Christ in Covington, GA is now in their new building. Several members from Gold Hill Road, including David and Tammy Williams, Joe and Marty Manning, and Barry and Tracey Van Hamme went down to join in celebrations for the new building on April 2.

The church enjoyed record attendance of 125 for Sunday morning Worship. Preacher Jim Gentry shared a great lesson from II Kings 5 on Namaan dipping seven times in the Jordan River before he was cleansed.

During Bible study, Joe Manning and David Williams were asked to speak.  They shared a history of the work in Covington, and a brief summary of the mission work that we are involved in here at Gold Hill Road.

The congregation at Gold Hill Road provides $800.00 in monthly financial support to Covington. In addition, we also gave them $500.00 for classroom furniture and donated 100 chairs for the new fellowship hall.  The building has a seating capacity of approximately 250.

After five years of planning and tremendous effort from many dedicated people, the congregation in Covington is enjoying and growing in their new church home. View pictures of the new building.

2005 Preachers Seminar

North Haiti

June 28 – July 1

Brother Charles Belch, minister at the South Fork Church of Christ in Winston-Salem and our own Brett Pharr conducted the Fifth annual preacher’s seminar for preachers across North Haiti.  Nearly 200 preachers attended the seminar from in early July.  The stated goals for the seminar were: 1) to learn for themselves, 2) to receive content for their preaching and Bible classes, 3) to discuss difficult questions they are facing from a Biblical perspective, during the sessions and with each other each evening, and 4) to build their mutual bond in Christ with one another.

The Seminar primarily included an in-depth review of the book of Romans as well as a review of the book “The Beginning of Our Confidence”, a study guide for new Christians that was translated into the native language, Creole.  Other topics included different styles and purposes for sermons, positive preaching, elders and scriptural worship.  The Seminar included 21 hours of study with substantial question and answer sessions.

For many of the preachers this is the only training they receive each year.  Most have only a high school level education and did not attend any preacher training.  They have learned from various other preachers over the years.  Many live in very rural environments with no means of transportation to visit other preachers or congregations.  They greatly treasure the opportunity this seminar gives them each year to learn and grow.
